ANNOUNCEMENT:

Field direction page on this site (under league info tab) was updated to include a label for where to find field#6. For those of you who have never been to Lake Fairfax before, the fields are all the way in the back of the park to the right and up a hill. The map on this site shows exactly where, and there is a sign past the picnic area pointing uphill to the fields.

There is also a really nice County water park for kids (and players) of all ages right at the entrance. Adult admission is $13 but you can go in and out all day. There are shower facilities and a snack bar inside.

Though weather still has a possibility of rain in the forecast, as this point we should be okay to play in some rain. We will suspend play for lightening, but have the fields all day and the fields are lit, so we can go into the evening until 11:00 PM if necessary due to lightening suspended play.

Humane Society is publishing a program for the tournament this year.

We`ll also have an MVP plaque in addition to the usual awards: team trophy and individual medals for winner, team trophy and individual medals for runner-up, team trophies for semifinalists. Winner (or next team down the line if winner already has a bid) who picks up the VA#5 bid to Nationals will also get a plaque indicating this accomplishment.

Teams can pick up the tournament roster/waiver and their t-shirts at the 5:00 SAT meeting at the Hyatt. Teams who don`t pick these items up SAT will get them SUN morning at the fields. Waivers will be collected during or after your first game, so don`t worry about getting them in before kickoff - however if you have players showing up later in the day you better come SAT and have them sign the waiver/roster in advance.

I forgot to mention in the email below for teams to bring bugspray and sunblock.

This is what was sent out to coaches earlier this week:

Bark Bowl Coaches,

We are 6 days away from the 2009 Bark Bowl: Sunday August 9th at Lake Fairfax Park in Reston.

The schedule and draw has been posted to the IFFL tournaments site here:

http://tournaments.iffl.us/standings?=20091=viewbraks=94

You can also access field directions information from the site under the "League Info" tab.

The tournament meeting will take place at 5:00 PM the afternoon before (Saturday August 8th) at the Fair Lakes Hyatt:

12777 Fair Lakes Circle, Fairfax, Virginia, USA 22033
phone: 703 818 1234

This meeting is NOT mandatory, but we will answer all questions related to the tournament.

We`ll be meeting on the large patio outside of one of the big meeting rooms. The front desk can point you to the meeting room, just indicate you are with the flag football tournament. There will be a complimentary keg of beer (as long as it lasts), and all coaches/players who wish to attend are welcome.

We are holding our Fall league meetings prior to the tournament meeting at the same location from 3:00 - 5:00.

Some quick Bark Bowl info:

*Your team must complete the roster/waiver at the field which will be picked up during or after your game.
*Roster max is 22 players.
*Players may NOT jump from one team to another. Violation = forfeit loss, and we`ll be watching.
*Teams must bring their OWN flags and balls - they are not provided.
*Games are scheduled at one hour increments, which equates to 25 minute halves.
*Grace period is until halftime - if you do not have at least 6 once the game clock hits halftime its a forfeit. If you do not have 6 at the coin toss you lose both kickoffs. As soon as you have 6 your team must play.
*Teams have 2 timeouts per half, and the clock only stops momentarily at the 2-minute warning.
*The game clock will stop on incompletions, penalties and out of bounds inside 2 minutes.
*Each team will play an average of 3.3 games, champion & runner-up will have played 5 or 6 games
*It is recommended you bring shade (a tent or canpoy) for your team. There are mini-bleachers at each field, but they are not shaded.
*Fields #1 and #4 are TURF (just like the State Tournament fields), but you can wear the same molded cleats you would on grass on those fields. Fields #2 and #6 are GRASS.
*Humane Society of Fairfax County (tournament benefactor) will have water, gatorade and snacks for sale for cheap out there.
*This is a double elimination tournament only up through the quarterfinals. Every game starting with the 2:30 quarterfinals and later is an elimination game.

WEATHER: we may be in luck as the forecast at this point is for cloudy skies and rain this weekend which means cooler weather and less direct sun. This is a rain or shine tournament, but if the rain causes grass fields to close, we will consolidate the tournament onto the turf fields and convert it to a single elimination tournament at that point, and issue partial refund checks to teams.

If you have any questions - don`t hesitate to ask!
